I checked in to Tempo by Hilton Times Square, a contemporary hotel that brings wellness-minded details, elevated city views, and a welcome sense of calm to the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

Times Square is not exactly known for subtlety. It is bright, energetic, and in constant motion, which makes stepping inside Tempo by Hilton Times Square feel like a shift in rhythm. Set within TSX Broadway, the 46-story tower that also incorporates entertainment venues, experiential retail, and the historic Palace Theatre, the hotel rises directly above one of New York City’s most recognizable intersections.
This is the flagship property for Hilton’s contemporary lifestyle brand, and its approach feels particularly well suited to the neighborhood.
The location keeps Broadway theaters, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, and Radio City Music Hall close at hand, yet the experience feels pleasantly removed from the crowds at street level.
The Stay

Tempo by Hilton Times Square has 661 guest rooms, and the design makes efficient use of the space without losing sight of comfort. My room felt clean-lined and calming, with floor-to-ceiling windows that brought the city into view while still creating a sense of retreat from it.
The sleep environment is one of the room’s strongest features. A plush mattress, cooling linens, and lighting designed to dim automatically at sunset help signal that it is time to slow down, an especially thoughtful touch after a full day in Manhattan. The bathroom is spacious for a Times Square hotel and includes Apotheke bath amenities and Bluetooth speakers.
Travelers who want to keep their fitness routine close can reserve a dedicated Wellness Room. These rooms include a Peloton Bike, yoga mat, resistance bands, and access to a digital fitness library. For a quintessential Times Square splurge, the hotel also has 31 Ball Drop rooms with close-up views of the famous New Year’s Eve Ball through floor-to-ceiling windows.
My Favorite 90 Seconds

My favorite ninety seconds came after the sun had gone down and I had returned back to my hotel after back to back meetings and an evening function. I lingered by my window and watched Times Square glow below.
From above, the neighborhood takes on a different quality. The billboards, headlights, and steady movement are still unmistakably Times Square, but distance softens the intensity and turns it into something cinematic. It is a rare perspective: close enough to feel part of the energy, yet high enough to take it all in without being swept up by it.
That contrast captures the hotel particularly well. Tempo places guests in the center of the action, then gives them the perfect amount of space to pause.
The Moments That Make It

Wellbeing here is presented in practical, easy-to-use ways. Beyond the dedicated Wellness Rooms, the hotel has a 24-hour fitness center and a signature hydration station. These details make it easier to maintain familiar routines on the road rather than treating wellness as a separate, scheduled activity.
Highball, the hotel’s signature restaurant and cocktail lounge on the eleventh floor, is another defining part of the stay. The room has a lively, contemporary atmosphere, while its expansive terrace offers a striking vantage point over Times Square.
The all-day menu revisits familiar New York comfort food with dishes such as tuna tartare with crispy rice, Nonna’s homemade meatballs, truffle Parmesan fries, gnocchi, pan-seared salmon, roasted chicken, French dip roast beef, and steak frites. Breakfast ranges from a fine-herb scramble and halloumi breakfast bowl to avocado toast, a breakfast burrito, and classic pastries.
The drinks program, developed in collaboration with mixologist Derek Brown, is designed around spirited and “free-spirited” pairings. Cocktails such as Get Figgy with It, Mezcal Me Maybe, and Matcha Made in Heaven are offered alongside thoughtful zero-proof counterparts made to echo the original flavor profiles.
There is also an Old Fashioned menu with imaginative variations including The Spice Route, The Orchard, The Peanut Butter, and The Venetian.

I especially like the intention behind the hotel’s literary partnership with New York’s Book Club Bar. Guests can pre-purchase a selected book before arriving, then pair the read with a literature-inspired cocktail at Highball.
The selection currently includes The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, Wicked by Gregory Maguire, and In Tongues by Thomas Grattan. Their corresponding cocktails: the Twisted Estate, Necromancer, and Unspoken Truth, translate elements of each story into the glass.
Who This Hotel Is Actually For
Tempo by Hilton Times Square is especially well suited to travelers who want to stay in the middle of Manhattan without sacrificing sleep, fitness, time away from their pets, or a sense of order. The location is ideal for first-time visitors, travelers with pets, Broadway-focused weekends, short city breaks, and business travelers who value being able to move around Midtown easily.
It is also a strong choice for guests who like contemporary hotels with useful, wellness-minded features rather than a traditional grand-hotel atmosphere. The rooms are streamlined, the public spaces feel energetic, and the food and beverage program gives guests a reason to stay in for part of the evening.
For anyone who thinks staying in Times Square automatically means trading comfort for convenience, Tempo offers a persuasive counterpoint.
